Chimpanzees of Lake Tanganyika
Remote Katavi, then daily treks to wild chimpanzees in the forested Mahale Mountains on the shore of Lake Tanganyika.
Overview
Fly to Tanzania’s far west, where the Mahale Mountains drop straight into Lake Tanganyika and there are no roads in or out. Begin in Katavi, one of Africa’s most remote parks, where vast buffalo herds and crowded hippo pools fill the dry season, then spend four nights trekking to a habituated chimpanzee community.
