About Mount Meru
Kilimanjaro's quieter neighbour
Northern Tanzania, just north-east of Arusha
Mount Meru, 4,566m, towers over Arusha — a dramatic volcanic cone within Arusha National Park, climbed in three to four days and often used as acclimatisation for Kilimanjaro.
Its forested lower slopes teem with giraffe, buffalo and colobus, walked in the company of an armed ranger.
