Remote wilderness & big herds

About Katavi National Park

The last true wilderness

Western Tanzania, near Mpanda

Katavi National Park, in Tanzania’s remote west, is raw, seldom-visited wilderness — vast floodplains where, as the dry season bites, hippos and crocodiles crowd into shrinking pools and buffalo gather in their thousands.

A handful of camps and almost no other vehicles make it one of the last truly wild safaris in East Africa, with a rare sense of discovery.
